The Ribstone Creek story

The Ribstone Creek Brewery is an investor-owned 'craft’ style brewery located in the village of Edgerton in east-central Alberta.

The founding members include:
• Alvin Gordon (village administrator),
• Don Paré (farmer),
• Chris Fraser (lawyer),
• Cal Hawkes (mechanic),
• and David Beardsell (a veteran brewmaster).

The five recognized the growing demand for high-quality, Alberta-made, craft beer and saw an opportunity to create a unique, thriving business in the area they grew up in.

After some in-depth market research and extensive discussion with community leaders, the decision was made to turn the Ribstone Creek dream into reality. The founders sought community investment and purchased a historical building on main street Edgerton — a former tractor dealership that had served area farmers for generations.

After renovating the building and fine-tuning the recipe for their flagship Ribstone Creek Lager, Ribstone Creek Brewery began full-scale beer production in the fall of 2012.

Local pubs, restaurants and liquor retailers embraced the 'made-at-home' product and staff found themselves scrambling to meet a demand that surpassed even the founders' wildest expectations.

In order to keep up, Ribstone has expanded their beer-making facility and more than doubled production capacity since starting up.

The support for Ribstone Creek Brewery continues to build, both locally and province-wide. Ribstone Creek is now on tap in more than 50 locations and dozens of retailers proudly stock Ribstone on their shelves.

"We wouldn't have gotten this far without so many local folks stepping up to make this brewery happen," said Gordon. "Our vision has always been to create something remarkable right here in the area we grew up in. And whatever happens from here on out — I'd say we've done just that."
